Situated around 25 miles from Leith is the beautiful seaside town of North Berwick. I’d be lying if I said our visit wasn’t inspired from seeing the lovely pastel houses on Instagram every now and again– that and the promise of a good coffee at Steampunk and Gelato after from the famous Alandas
First Up: Steampunk Coffee
We Ate & Drank
We both went for coffee first (as always!). We went for a Flat White and a Cappuccino– sans chocolate, oddly. That said, there is no denying the quality of their coffee. They even roast their own coffee in the Cafe itself, which can also be found in the merchandise section. Stockists of Steampunk Coffee include The Bearded Barista, Lovecrumbs, and Sugar Daddy’s, among many others.
We each went for one of their tempting grilled cheese sandwiches, and a bowl of Roasted Celeriac Soup to share. Both were absolutely delicious- but THAT toastie was the best. ever.
To finish off we went for another coffee (yep, they were that good), as well as a couple of cakes to satisfy our sugar cravings. I went for the brown butter, pecan & chocolate chip cookie and my S.O went for the carrot cake. I have to admit I did have slight food envy over the carrot cake as it was the fluffiest one I’ve ever tried, but luckily we did the old half + half trick so we were both happy in the end!
his: biscoff cheesecake / honeycomb
hers: biscoff / raffaello
I cannot recommend Alandas Gelateria enough. Even if you are only passing through North Berwick, this place is a must. There were endless flavours to choose from and they’re all made from scratch in-house.
If we had more time/room in our tummies we would’ve visited…
