If like us, you love staying in hotels, but are normally limited to where and when you can get away due to a certain 4-legged companion, The Principal at Charlotte Square is a fabulously styled hotel that not only allows dogs but goes out of their way to make them feel welcome. It may only be 3 miles from our flat but we could’ve been a million miles away.
We booked ourselves in for a standard, ‘Guest Room‘ for our stay but were pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was. Normally, especially in a city centre location, the most affordable room usually only has enough room to walk around the bed. But this one had a gorgeous big wardrobe, coffee table and 2 chairs as well as a dog bed and bowl for the pooch.
The Bathroom was also a reasonable size and came complete with a luxurious rainfall shower, 2 fluffy bathrobes and the hotel’s own lovely toiletries.
Penny found the amenities most satisfactory and especially liked the porcelain water and food bowls. She quickly became best friends with several members of staff who spoiled her with biscuits and cuddles.
We’ve enjoyed a drink or two in The Garden bar before and it was one of the main reasons we chose this hotel for our staycation. With it’s hanging foliage, glass-domed roof, and hanging fairy lights it is a complete oasis and can be enjoyed at any time of the day.
As it was our 4 year anniversary we got ourselves booked in to try BABA. It had been on our ‘wish list’ of Edinburgh restaurants pretty much since they opened and as it was just on our doorstep for the night what better time to visit. We couldn’t have enjoyed our meal out more.
If you haven’t been yet, we’d recommend beiruti burrata, beetroot hummus and lamb shoulder. To read our full review click here.
