Big Bluesy Brunch @ Brewhemia, Edinburgh

Brewhemia is one of those amazing venues which is well known for its impressive Beer Palace and the live music which fills the place on a Saturday night. We have been there a handful of times in the past year, not only for a few drinks at the weekend but also their fab ‘Pawhemia’ with Penny as well as an amazing Sunday Lunch with friends.

So when we received an email from the team at Brewhemia asking us to pop along to try their new Big Bluesy Brunch, we had to say yes!*

From walking in just after 10am on Saturday morning we were met with wonderful live music from the Blues duo 12 Bar Brews, the friendly service we have always encountered at Brewhemia and stunning surrounds. You could smell the aroma of fresh coffee in the air which was definitely needed, although the Bloody Mary Bar didn’t go unnoticed either!

As always, in the interest of trying something from both the savoury and sweet ends of the Brunch spectrum and being able to have ‘a bit of both’, we studied the menu meticulously until we finally arrived at a decision…

His

THE DIRTY STACK

Homemade Canadian style pancakes stacked high with peanut butter, Nutella, & seasonal fresh berries.

If you have a bit of a sweet tooth then this is the one for you! The fluffiest pancakes with lashings of Nutella, peanut butter, icing sugar, maple syrup and fresh berries — you can’t go wrong with that. I tried to keep my food envy at bay but did have to give in eventually and try some!

Hers

HAGGIS BENNY

Traditional or vegetarian haggis served on toasted crumpets, poached hens eggs & homemade hollandaise

Eggs Benedict has, for a long time, been one of my favourite dishes to order when out for Brunch and so I’m always on the mission to find the best one. This was definitely way up there with the cream of the crop. Perhaps it was the delicious haggis they used, the crumpets as an alternative to muffins, the homemade hollandaise or the scrumptiously poached eggs — or a combination!… But I couldn’t fault this Benny and will 100% order it again.

After letting our food go down slightly we took the plunge with some ‘hair of the dog’ i.e. delicious cocktails and it was the perfect way to finish the meal. We went for the Mimosa and Bloody Mary and they were both stunning!

What made our experience all the more enjoyable was, of course, being joined by Penny, our Golden Retriever. Upon arrival, we were given a blanket for her to lie on and several members of the team asked if she was allowed treats. She was thoroughly spoiled by all with plenty of attention and even seemed to enjoy the live music (just as well as she received a dedication from them right after we got there!). Just look at that face!

The Verdict

Food – 10/10
Atmosphere – 10/10
Service – 10/10
Value – 10/10

Ambience – Live, upbeat jazz music with lovely ambient lighting and chilled out vibe

There are so many things to like about Brewhemia and this is just the cherry on top. It’s rare for us to award any eatery 10/10 in every category but there was really nothing we would change or fault. If there was anything that stood out more than the rest it would have to be the service– it was just enough to be attentive but not annoying and everyone we met seemed genuinely very friendly. We can’t wait to go back!
